In 2024 WAYO Manyara Green camp opened to critical acclaim.
The permanent lodge on the banks of a river and its waterfall, lies with the historic Maryara National Park in Tanzania. Along side the in house team I helped develop the structure, along with its moving, stargazer roof. For the interiors I took inspiration from the camps surrounds, the forest and the fauna and of course the animals, but also the people and their trades. We again managed to source and make 99% of the camp locally, giving valuable work to many and reducing the supply chain. Each item I design from scratch and work with the local Craftspeople to develop and oversee. A sometimes challenging, but incredibly rewarding challenge!
Some highlights include the handmade bar, with its carpet facade and hand poured terrazzo top, which sit alongside oversized carved poles adorned with woven thread and understated lights.
The roofs in the bedroom that move by a bedside remote are a delight that I can not take credit for, but the handwoven headboards crafted meticulously by our weavers Happy and Helima are a joy to see as you walk into the room.
Im incredibly proud of this project on many levels. Its a truly special spot and these new rooms are the icing on the cake!
